Welcome back to Innervision FM Music News, where we bring you entertainment headlines, music history, artist birthdays, and opportunities for independent musicians!
Today we’re talking about Drake celebrating his 40th birthday with the Backstreet Boys, Chris Brown’s sentencing in London, the passing of a Star Trek legend, classic rock favorites Bachman-Turner Overdrive, and a special Denver independent music showcase.
1. Star Trek Legend Walter Koenig Dies at 90
Sad news for science-fiction fans everywhere.
Walter Koenig, the actor famous for playing Ensign Pavel Chekov on the original Star Trek television series, passed away Sunday, October 25, 2026, at age 90.
Koenig joined Star Trek in 1967 and became one of the show’s most recognizable characters. His Russian navigator represented a hopeful future where countries that had once been enemies could work together.
He also appeared in seven Star Trek feature films and played Alfred Bester on Babylon 5.
Johnnie J asks: “How many of you remember watching the original Star Trek with Captain Kirk, Spock, Scotty, Uhura, Sulu, and Chekov? Who was your favorite character?”
Rest in peace, Walter Koenig.
2. Drake Celebrates His 40th Birthday With the Backstreet Boys
Canadian rapper Drake turned 40 on October 24, 2026, and according to iHeartRadio’s entertainment report, his celebration included a performance by the legendary Backstreet Boys, with Drake joining the fun.
Now that’s an interesting musical combination: one of hip-hop’s biggest stars celebrating with one of the most successful boy bands of the 1990s!
The Backstreet Boys are remembered for hits including “I Want It That Way,” “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back),” and “As Long as You Love Me.”
Question for Allen C and Hey Joe: If you could invite any three famous musicians to perform at your birthday party, who would you choose?
3. Chris Brown Avoids Immediate Prison Time in UK Assault Case
R&B singer Chris Brown has received an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, in connection with a 2023 London nightclub assault case.
The suspended sentence means Brown will not immediately serve that prison term, provided he complies with the court’s conditions.
Brown, known for its including “Run It!,” “Forever,” and “Under the Influence,” continues to attract attention for both his musical career and legal troubles.
Discussion question: Can audiences separate an artist’s music from the artist’s personal conduct?
4. Bachman-Turner Overdrive — Classic Rock Spotlight
Let’s talk about one of the great Canadian rock bands, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, better known as BTO!
Founded in the 1970s, the group helped define classic rock with driving guitar riffs and unforgettable choruses.
Some of their biggest hits include:
- “Takin’ Care of Business”
- “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet”
- “Let It Ride”
- “Roll On Down the Highway”
- “Hey You”
BTO’s music continues to entertain audiences’ decades after its original release.
Johnnie J asks: “Do you remember the first time you heard ‘Takin’ Care of Business’? That’s one of those songs that makes you want to turn the radio up!”
