Innervision FM: AI Music, YouTube Shorts, Dr. Sebi, Music History & Toni Negus Ticket Giveaway
Monday’s Innervision FM Music News brought Johnnie J, Allen C and Hey Jo together for a wide-ranging conversation about music, technology, independent artists, health discussions, music history, and the changing world of online content creation.
One of the biggest themes of the show was a question facing nearly every independent musician today: How do you turn viewers and followers into real fans?
YouTube Shorts, AI, and Building an Audience
Allen talked about using YouTube Shorts as a promotional tool, especially short 15-to-30-second videos designed to hold attention and encourage people to replay them.
The hosts discussed the importance of strong titles, search-engine optimization and understanding what viewers want to watch.
Johnnie plans to take a closer look at Innervision FM’s analytics to learn more about the music and subjects’ subscribers respond to most.
The conversation also turned to artificial intelligence in music and video creation. AI is opening new opportunities for independent creators who may not have access to large production budgets, but it is also creating plenty of controversy.
Allen discussed combining AI-generated material with real musicians, voices, instruments, and traditional digital audio workstation production.
The big question became:
Is AI simply another tool for musicians, or will the music industry eventually draw a line between AI-assisted music and traditional music?
That conversation is far from over.
J. Cole and Creative Concert Marketing
Johnnie shared a story about J. Cole and an unusual concert marketing idea involving thousands of promotional towels being distributed at a large event.
The discussion showed how even established artists are constantly searching for creative ways to make fans remember a concert long after the last song has been performed.
For independent artists, the lesson is simple: sometimes the most memorable promotion is something your audience can see, touch, photograph or take home.
Toni Negus Ticket Giveaway
Innervision FM is also helping promote an upcoming performance by Toni Negus.
Toni will perform at The Monkey Bar, 1112 Santa Fe Drive in Denver, on Thursday, September 3, 2026.
The concert is part of the Innervision Live Tour 2026, supporting Innervision’s mission of creating opportunities and music-industry education for blind and disabled musicians, broadcasters, and content creators.
Innervision FM is giving away two tickets to the concert.
The contest is simple:
The 10th person to email Johnnie at Johnnie@innervisionrecords.org about the Toni Negus ticket giveaway will win the pair of tickets.
The evening will also feature special opening act 4 Ever Young — Leonard and Paul Solano.
Johnnie and the team are focused on packing The Monkey Bar before expanding future shows into larger venues and additional markets.
Music Bingo Needs More Promotion
The hosts also discussed Innervision FM’s Music Bingo promotion.
The early response showed that even a good idea can struggle when people do not know about it.
Johnnie plans to send additional reminders to musicians and contacts, while Allen suggested creating a short promotional video that immediately explains what Music Bingo is, what people can win and how they can participate.
That is another important lesson for independent artists and nonprofits:
You cannot assume people know about your event just because you posted it once.
Promotion needs repetition.
Paul McCartney, Billie Eilish and Plant-Based Musicians
Monday’s show also featured a discussion about musicians who follow vegetarian or plant-based lifestyles.
Paul McCartney has been one of the best-known vegetarian musicians for decades.
The hosts also talked about artists including Billie Eilish and Moby, who have publicly discussed vegan or plant-based eating.
The conversation raised an interesting question for musicians:
Could changing what you eat affect your energy, health, and ability to perform?
Whatever an artist chooses to eat, the Innervision FM crew agreed that musicians should learn about nutrition and make informed decisions that work for them.
Dr. Sebi and His Controversial Legacy
The show also revisited Dr. Sebi, whose real name was Alfredo Bowman.
Johnnie discussed Sebi’s controversial health claims and his 1987 court case involving allegations of practicing medicine without a license.
Dr. Sebi was acquitted in the criminal case.
Supporters of Dr. Sebi have long repeated accounts that numerous people presented medical information concerning illnesses before and after following his herbal and dietary program.
The hosts also discussed broader stories associated with Dr. Sebi concerning AIDS, Africa, and meetings with political figures.
These stories remain controversial, and some details frequently repeated online are difficult to independently verify.
Innervision FM believes these subjects can be discussed while making a distinction between documented events, personal testimony and medical claims that have not been accepted by mainstream medical science.
Viewers should always consult qualified medical professionals before making decisions regarding serious illnesses or stopping prescribed treatments.
This Day in Music History
The show traveled back through music history from August 20 through August 24.
The Beatles were a major part of the conversation.
On August 20, 1969, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr were together at Abbey Road Studios for what is generally considered the final recording session attended by all four Beatles.
The hosts also remembered the release of “She Loves You” during the early years of Beatlemania and talked about the enormous influence The Beatles continue to have on musicians more than half a century later.
Music Birthdays
Innervision FM also celebrated and remembered several legendary artists born between August 20 and August 24, including:
Robert Plant, Isaac Hayes, Demi Lovato, Count Basie, Kenny Rogers, Kelis, Kacey Musgraves, John Lee Hooker, Tori Amos, Keith Moon, Rick Springfield, and electronic-music pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre.
Different generations. Different genres. One thing in common: music that continues to connect with listeners.
From Records to Digital Loops
Hey Jo, Allen and Johnnie also looked at how music technology has changed.
The industry has moved from vinyl records and tape to CDs, MP3 files, streaming, digital audio workstations, computer-generated loops, and now AI-assisted music.
Every generation of musicians has had to adapt to new technology.
Today’s independent artist has access to tools that once would have required an expensive professional studio.
The challenge is no longer simply getting access to technology.
The challenge is figuring out how to use it creatively enough to stand out.
Followers Are Not Always Fans
Johnnie pointed out another interesting example from Innervision’s own online presence.
Some platforms may show only a handful of followers while another platform can have hundreds or thousands.
That does not necessarily mean the platform with the largest number is producing the strongest audience.
Artists need to ask:
Who watches?
Who comments?
Who buys a ticket?
Who shares your music?
Who comes back next week?
Those people are becoming your real fanbase.
That may be far more important than simply collecting another follower.
